1,500 Bombardier workers end strike at Toronto plant

TORONTO, Canada: Union workers at Bombardier's business-jet assembly plant in Toronto ratified a new three-year collective bargaining agreement on Saturday, ending a strike that began last week.

Unifor, Canada's largest private sector union, announced that some 1,500 of its members who work at the plant voted to accept a preliminary agreement reached on Friday, which includes wage increases and higher monthly pension benefits.

However, there was no word on when work would resume.

Bombardier's Global 7500, which is listed at $73 million and is a key revenue generator for the business-jet maker, is assembled at the Toronto plant.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada's 700 workers who manufacture Dash 8-400 turboprops at the same facility remain on strike, with negotiations between Unifor and the company continuing, the statement added.
